It amazes me how many people work out hard for an hour or so everyday and then hit up McDonald&#8217;s for lunch. The philosophy &#8220;I worked it off in the gym&#8221; just does not work in the real world. You can burn some extra calories through exercise, but you are throwing all that away if you continue to eat garbage. Sorry, but that&#8217;s the reality. Working out does not earn you the right to eat however you want, that is unless you want to stay in your current physical condition and put your health at risk.<br />
Similarly, you can not expect to achieve healthy weight loss if you simply eat right and do not exercise. How do you expect to build muscle and improve you metabolism if you do not exercise? How do you expect to improve your physical condition if you do not exercise? You can&#8217;t expect either of these things because they simply cannot happen without exercise.<br />
To achieve healthy weight loss, not only to you need to eat right and exercise right but you also need to exercise at both high and low intensities. You must take advantage of high intensity resistance training and interval training; and also low intensity resistance training and aerobic cardio. The combination is what ensures success and what makes sure your body does not adapt to exercise. The combination is necessary for true healthy weight loss.<br />
One final thing that you must implement into your healthy weight loss routine is rest. You must properly periodize your workouts and rest appropriately to make sure your body recovers from the stress of exercise and responds optimally to your efforts. For example, when you perform a resistance training workout, your muscle tissue is actually breaking down. In order to get the most out of your next workout, you must allow this tissue to fully recover and rebuild. In addition to this type of rest, sleeping 6-8 quality hours each night will also help with recovery and aid in your weight loss goal achievement.<br />
Some people just do traditional aerobic cardio to lose weight. Others simply eat right. However, the people who actually achieve lasting healthy weight loss success are the ones who exercise using different training methods, eat right, and rest properly. The combination of all these factors is not an option if you want to be successful when it comes to healthy weight loss, it is necessary. Don&#8217;t slack in any of these areas. Focus all of your efforts on the ultimate prize. By doing this, you will significantly increase your odds of getting it. </p>

<p>This would then lower the metabolism causing greater muscle loss and when the diet is broken the unwanted fat would not only return but actually increase because to the lowered metabolism. </p>
<p>The way around this is to cut your daily calorie intake by a small amount of calories only. This will stop any starvation mechanisms from clicking in. </p>
<p>You can do this by making up a seven day eating plan and writing down every thing you eat for the week, and then work out the calories you have eaten with a calorie counter. Divide this figure by seven and you have your daily calorie value.</p>
<p>Decrease daily calorie value by a couple of hundred calories per day and no more. This will generate slow weight loss and the majority will be fat loss only. The daily calories should be consumed during the day with small frequent meals.</p>

<p>I feel that it is especially helpful for those that have developed a disorder with food or are obese.   </p>
<p>PERMANENT WEIGHT LOSS?  </p>
<p>You always hear that MEDIFAST will inevitably cause you to gain your weight back. This is true for ANY weight loss program. Let&#8217;s stick to reality here. If we do not remain steadfast and committed in taking care of our bodies then yes of course the weight will<br />
come back. Only with exercise, education about nutrition and a love of life can we stay at a healthy weight. Medifast does work for those who decide to work with it.  </p>
<p>A DAY IN THE LIFE..  </p>
<p>Let me give you and example about a regular day on the program Meals should be 3-4 hours apart.  </p>
<p>8:00am &#8211; I have awakened from sleep, revived and ready for a new day. I am ready for breakfast. Oatmeal sound great&#8230;especially Apple and Cinnamon. The oatmeal is best mixed with 3/4 cup of water<br />
(if you like it thick use 1/2) and needs no sprucing up but I add a packet of Splenda and a little vanilla extract for that &#8216;gooey&#8217; texture I like!  </p>
<p>12:00 &#8211; I have a bowl of vegan chili with MediFast multigrain crackers (mixed with 1 cup water and heated for 2 minutes let set hot!!!) with bits of fresh onion and celery mixed in not to mention<br />
a dash of garlic powder and paprika. The chili really does not need these extras but it is okay to add them if it is desired.  </p>
<p>3:00 &#8211; I grab a delicious peanut butter protein bar gives me a boost and makes me feel like I&#8217;m cheating!  </p>
<p>6:00 &#8211; I decide to have a small &#8216;meal&#8217; for dinner (you can eat the MediFast products only or have 1 meal a day within guidelines). I have grilled turkey breast with a couple of cups of lettuce, a few<br />
onions, fat-free honey Dijon dressing, and another packet of crackers.  </p>
<p>9:00 &#8211; I have my last meal for the day. A favorite treat of mine. Canfield&#8217;s Chocolate Fudge soda mixed with a packet of Mocha Chocolate MediFast, a packet of Splenda, and a dash of chocolate extract (this was frozen made earlier in the day). It tastes so good&#8230;like chocolate ice milk! Yum.  </p>
<p>THE RUN-DOWN  </p>
<p>Basically to wrap things up in summary&#8230;<br />
You can have 5 supplements a day and one meal. You<br />
can also have two fast soups, that do not count as a supplement (beef, chicken, tomato) and up to 2 packets of crackers. The shakes (two different chocolates, vanilla, strawberry and orange),<br />
oatmeal, chili, creamy soups and candy bars (peanut butter, chocolate devine, mint chocolate, berry, lemon and oatmeal) are counted as supplements. You can add small amounts of veggies,<br />
extracts and spices to any of the soups (Chicken Noodle, Creamy Tomato, Chicken and Broccoli) and chili. You can also have any non-caloric drink as much as you want but need to get in at least 64 oz. of water a day. Coffee (milk can be used!) is allowed but limited to three cups a day . For dinners, 3-4 oz. of lean meats<br />
(chicken, turkey, beef, pork, fish, shrimp) are allowed with or in lettuce greens (a couple of stuffed cups of lettuce allowed) with a few veggies in the salad and 2 tablespoons of low-fat or fat-free dressing. A cup or two of other cooked or raw veggies (green beans, broccoli, etc.) can substitute a salad.  </p>
<p>Once you get into the swing of things, find out which foods you like best, and develop a schedule&#8230;things go pretty smoothly. The first three days of adjustment may have minor side-effects such as headaches, fatigue, and grumpiness but those first three days are worth any mild discomfort considering how helpful and how far you can go in healing the body and mind of obesity with this program.  </p>

Getting yourself into the right frame of mind and allowing yourself to be loved &#8212; by others, but most of all by yourself &#8212; is the best way to make lasting change for the better. </p>
<p>The reason you’re overweight now is because of self-sabotaging thoughts which prevent you from truly being the person you deserve to be. Most overweight people just don’t know how to think like a slim person. </p>
<p>We all have a background conversation going on in our minds, constantly affecting the way we’re feeling and affecting our behaviour. It’s frequently negative and outdated, and when we’re not consciously aware of it we can’t do anything to change it. With the power of our unconscious thoughts on our side, we can actually get to where we want to be &#8212; and this means healthy weight loss without massive effort. Learn to catch your negative chatter and turn it around to the positive. </p>
<p>Stop comparing yourself to other people. You are you, and you’re great as you are, even before you lose the weight. You’re lovable, attractive and unique. Please don’t forget that! And don’t focus on how “unfair” it is that other people seem to eat whatever they want and not gain weight. Most slim people restrict their eating to some extent, whether they’re aware of it or not. </p>
<p>To gain the slim body you desire, you also need to love your body just the way it is. Not as it will be once you reach your optimal weight, but as it is right now. This is the way to literally “think yourself slim”. Appreciate the fact that you have a strong, lovely body, and know that it’s embarking on a journey towards full health and wellness. </p>
<p>Now, see if you can start to recognise the difference between genuine hunger (a feeling in your stomach &#8212; it may even rumble!) and other triggers. Many overweight people eat for emotional reasons, and just push their feelings down with food. If this is you, learn to see that, however much you eat, this won’t take the emotion away. </p>
<p>If you are hungry, by all means eat something – you’re starting to listen to what your body is actually telling you. Eat little and reasonably often, but never go beyond the feeling of just having satisfied the hunger. Over-eating isn’t just bad for you, it’s uncomfortable too. </p>
